Services at Terminal 5

Mott MacDonald was lead designer (below ground) at Terminal 5

Mott MacDonald has been the lead designer responsible for development, co-ordination and design of all sub-structures at Terminal 5. This includes the multilevel basements beneath the main terminal, concourse A and
B, over and outside roads plus all geotechnical design associated with the underground tunnels.

Making Terminal 5 accessible is vital to its success. Mott MacDonald has been instrumental in bringing people to this new development.

Among the tasks undertaken is the 1.7km long Piccadilly Line extension, which connects into the existing Piccadilly Line near the central terminal area. Similarly, the Heathrow Express Extension takes the Heathrow Express rail link from the existing rail station at the central terminal area to the new rail station located beneath the new T5 terminal building.

Collaborative working is a key feature of the rail integration services that we and our partners have been providing. We’ve supported rail approvals through the provision of independent assurance and provided stakeholders and the customer with confidence in the design.

We successfully completed work on the Airside Road Tunnel on time, under budget and with no impact on the airport’s day to day operations.
