passenger terminal at Delhi Airport
We are the lead technical consul-tant for the £1b modernisation
of Delhi Airport. Our aviation team, in conjunction with our Delhi
office, provided the master plan, concept and pre-liminary designs,
environmental management,
traffic forecasting and tender assistance.
A comprehensive traffic forecast was prepared for the 30 year life
of the concession using complex models that reflect recent
deregulation and the resultant explosive growth in demand. Over the
next 20 years Indian carriers are expected to purchase more than
800 aircraft. The airport master plan has had to accommodate
predicted growth from 15 million passengers per annum today to
nearly 50 million in ten years time and 80 million by 2026.

modernised Delhi AirportDetailed airfield simulation was
carried out to measure the effects of progressively adding three
new runways. Construction of the first new runway commenced just
nine months after the start of the forecasting and master planning.
This runway, measuring 4,450m, is one of the longest in Asia and is
ready to cope with the extreme summer heat, the new ultra long haul
aircraft and the A380 super-jumbo.
The first phase of the new terminal building is over
450,000m
2 – with 73 stands for both international and
domestic aircraft operations – and is understood to be the largest
public building in India. The new terminal is due to open in spring
2010, in time for the Commonwealth Games being held in Delhi.
